Hi all.
I’m looking for a bit of advice if possible please. We have a 180 year old stone cottage that is screaming out for TLC.
It hasn’t been maintained or cared for in decades.
It has dry&wet rot, rising and penetrating damp and a good dose of woodworm too.
The roof has been covered in plastic for over 15 years and all the rafters are perished. We are renewing the roof. And hacking off all of the cement render from internal and external walls. New external lime render to be applied to original walls and New extensions.
The place is really damp, and internal floors are lower (12 inches) than external floor levels.
Would a French drain around the perimeter of external walls help? I cannot lower the ground level outside.
The previous owners used C-stud and rockwool directly on the interior of the external walls and the moisture ensured that all PB was perished I was looking to install superfoil insulation on a batton frame standing away from external walls and rockwool in the ceilings.
The master plan is to drag the house into the 21st century but retaining its 1840’s curb appeal.
Solar PV is being installed “inroof” along with underfloor heating and solar thermal. Backed up by a back burner/ log burner.
Thanks for reading
Looking forward to responses.
