Basically, it's a party in your street, in everyone's street. On 19th July we're asking the people of Britain to stop what they're doing and sit down to lunch together. Why? Well for lots of reasons really but mainly to put a smile back on Britain's face...

Another fantastic big idea from Tim Smit which is sure to be a success.I think this is just what we need to put a bit of community spirit back into our increasingly insular little lives.
It's a bit scary, but worth going for. Will see if I can persuade the other half to get it going in our street.

It's a great idea....let's just hope that it doesn't get bogged down by some of the ridiculous H&S and local council inteference around catering, public gatherings, insurance etc. Better not play any music either or you'll have the PRS after their royalties.

Tim has just been recognised by the RICS with honorary membership.

Sounds like a good idea although I think the foriegn nationals who live in the town centre flats probably would be hard company as most seem to speak little English.

Crikey, some people's questions are even more basic than my own! Not knowing how to make breadcrumbs?

But some people seem to have a fundamental unawareness of how meals are made. My father-in-law served up fish stuffed with raw garlic and lettuce the other day- you can imagine how the lettuce had gone after an hour in the oven! We couldn't stop laughing- cruel really.

I have to tell you all about my village fete party. I invited lots of people from the street, + 50 bemused Japanese businessmen, wives and kids. There was an ongoing BBQ, as well as lashings of ginger beer, cucumber sandwiches, and cakes. (the catering took me a week) We had bunting, apple bobbing, hoopla, guess the weight of the cat (Lord Rochester was slightly slimmer in London but still a whopping 7kg), a raffle for jam, and sack races. To top it all off Nature provided constant pouring rain (which did not deter a stoic race like the Japanese) and there were fireworks at the end. It's one of my best memories of living in London.
