Say Nemesis, you seem to be very knowlegeable on this subject, were you involved with the production? As for me, lovely scenery, but the plot seemed to be only loosely based on the 39 steps as featured on R4 about 3 months ago or even the 1950s version I watched while I was at School(1960). Must read the book some day!

Why should I have been involved? Just enjoyed the setting, the historic buildings etc. Culross is a place worth a visit, as is Stirling Castle. The cars were real, the plane I gather a recreation. A ripping yarn, first published 1919.

Yes, very loosely based, there was no attempt to base it all exactly on the book, if you read the links I gave, but there again, none of the previous versions were very true to it either.

There may be more Hannay adventures (Buchan wrote five in all) to come.

Agree - a ripping yarn and some wonderful locations. Am not very knowledgeable about vintage cars, but anyone know what the more powerful green one was?

Read the book years ago - don't remember the girl featuring so highly in the book. Also seem to remember the finale was down south in Kent too... oh well, all gripping stuff. Would be good if there were more - was unaware there were four more books.

Thanks for the link to the book Nemesis, Richard Hannay, Scotland and Spies are the only links to the original. And also, from memory, the film had Marvo(?) the memory man who told RH where the 39 steps were and died saying something like " Did I get it right Guvner?".

Marvo was an invention of the Hitchcock. He wasn't in the book either!
