thatchers, now im not so sure!

so far one thatcher has told us his father thatched this house last, another quote from a different thatcher told us that it was his boss! i have been listening to thatchers talk about how bad other thatchers are but the one that really put me off was one particular thatcher even got a sucking in through the teeth by the local CO , obviously he couldn't comment but it really does show the state of the industry due to the odd few who will lie through their teeth to get work then perhaps do a crap job as well.
anyway the CO put me straight with a few pointers on how to choose a thatcher but that was a close call , i almost chose a wrongun..

I'd be surprised if thatchers are any worse than any other segment of the building trade.

Anyway, it sounds as if you're doing the right sorts of things; talking to more than one thatcher, asking around etc etc.

As ever, in all walks of life, references and personal recommendations will help to sort the wheat from the chaff.

indeed , ive been directed here http://www.eamta.co.uk/index.html as a good place to start and told to ask for a written full specification of work from any thatchers i talk to which should include materials , methods etc etc so i can compare and also to make sure the work is done to a good specification and if it isnt then at least i have a leg to stand on later.
