Since our extension was finished we have had issues with a build up of rainwater against the link (see photo). Prior to the building work the block patio was much larger and all the blocks were set in concrete and excess water simply ran away. We are now finding that water is pooling against, and saturating, the link wall. I didn't see what the builders used under the new blocks next to the link and extension base wall but it appears that the water is seeping through. They did put a drainage channel in against the extension but the water doesn't reach it.
My thought is that I take out the bricks where the rainwater falls from the thatch (you can see a convenient pale line) and us the cavity to create a rill that will force the water away from the house. I would fill it with small gravel because a great deal of the damp, particularly on the oak weatherboarding, is caused by splashback which I hope the gravel will reduce.
Can anyone see any problems with this? The only one I have so far is that the concrete bricks are set to the concrete base so well that I don't have the tools to shift them. It is taking forever to gain ground as you will see.
Thanks
