Following comments in the 'to be' or 'not to be' listed debate, herewith my wonderful blown bricks at the back of the house ,which are due to be dealt with shortly--also probably the marvellous DIY PVC window installations by the previous owner -they let in a cold draught, even when closed---budget will not stretch to replacement this year !

Unlike Moo , I have not got to tackle the removal of pebble dash!

Fortunately the front of the house looks in reasonable nick and still has its original wooden windows. The majority of the neighbouring properties are an excellent example of plastic beauty.

A repair and a fresh coat of paint will do wonders for that. Do you ever feel tempted by those stick on glazing bars for the placcy windows? I would!

But Joss's aren't just ugly - they're draughty as well, which is an excellent excuse for replacing them.
Ours, however, are even uglier, but they are uber-efficient. No draughts, no outside noise. Which is why we'll have to live with them until absolutely everything has been done and paid for. Only then, if there's enough cash lurking at the bottom of the piggy-bank, will they be dealt with.
Perhaps Joss and I will resort to replacing our windows one at a time.......

Joss, if you google Black Elder and go to Images you'll see lots of examples, but I'm pleased to say that not one of them is a patch on ours!

Thanks Moo for your comforting words, glad I am not alone with a piggy bank that seems to take ages to fill.

Joce, I couldn't possibly sink to the depths of using stick on glazing bars---they will simply look worse!!!!!!!!!!!

I will just hope that the brickee will patch up the recesses--at least the glazing seals are still ok and not blown!

My experience of most DG is that the frames are sort-of vaguely fitted in the opening, but with gaping holes to the outside world that are then covered up by thin uPVC strips, stuck on with sealant. No wonder they are draughty and noisy.

Simple fix is to remove the trim strips and use expanding foam to seal the frame in. Sacrilege for a period home, but pragmatic for anything else. YMMV
