Coming up at auction:

Catalogued as circa 1825. Need recaning and reupholstering. I guess they would have had cushions over the cane seats. Last time I tried bidding for a pair of chairs they went for way over the estimate, and being unemployed I can't really afford them. They are nice though.

Need recaning and reupholstering.

Just make sure that any significant new bits are easily identifiable and not confused with the historic fabric, a nice perspex seat and some purple polyester should do a treat :lol:

They are described as "side chairs". They could be upholstered to match my chaise longue......

Slowly. I am trying to find an organisation I would actually like to work for. Finance Director of a charity supporting a cause I can relate to is my preference.

Such luxury! All the best in finding that, I think it is a very noble thing if you can find & afford to wait for something that will feed the soul as well as the family.

I'm waiting on 1 role that I really want now, but I am sat on an offer that will at least tide me over if that one doesn't come off. It's not really what I want to do, it's back into managing supply chain for part of one of the big supermarkets, which I'm not terribly keen on. Pays the mortgage though.

One thing I have learnt from my enforced holiday - how did I ever find the time to go to work?? Retirement holds no fear now (not that it ever did really) - I have thoroughly enjoyed having the last 2 months off, it's been great! Just another 25 years or so to retirement....

Well done Feltwell! that's terrific news that you'll be in work again, very pleased to read that. These are difficult times and any work is something to be proud of.

Know just what you mean about time off, working the month of April on the Census has been something of a trial, though the work has been pleasant and interesting in itself. The backlogue of ironing, cleaning and gardening is scary though! Cleared a London- bus sized pile of stuff in the last week or so, and it's only a tiny fraction of what there is to be got rid of.

I'm very glad the job ends on Friday.

I was going to suggest the National Trust too! Actually their head office is in Swindon and I seem to recall Nigel's previous employer moved to Swindon and he didn't want to go?

I agree with the others - work certainly gets in the way of important work at home! Since leaving my job in Feb I've been busy with NT volunteering but it was nice for 3 weeks before Easter also to have time to get decorating done and work on my own garden. Much as I like doing these things, I've got to earn a crust - Mr Juju has paid for everything this month but I don't like being a kept woman - and in fact several paid jobs (based at home) have all kicked off this week so I've been working since before 7am today - only now got a chance to catch up with PPUK. I can't have paid work getting in the way of PPUK and FB! My NT volunteering seems to be expanding too - I started doing 1.5 days a week with the full day finishing at 4; now I'm up to 2 full days finishing nearer 5 including me occasionally being in charge of the gardens when the gardener is offsite. I like the responsibility but I do go home worried that I've done everything I'm supposed to - equipment away, sheds locked, badgers' electric fence on (croquet team would never forgive me if badgers dug up the croquet lawn), no visitors locked in the garden :lol:

Yes, be careful not to do that. I inadvertantly locked a pupil in the music room over lunch time once--- poor kid was really upset-- but it turned out that he was hiding behind the piano to avoid another Teacher, so I did not see him. !!
