Tarnishing

I am amazed at how quickly our silver and brass seems to be tarnishing at the moment. Since one cannot get the staff these days I am finding it hard to keep,upwith it, so it's either pack it away or keep at it. It's actually going black within days of cleaning ... have I got some horrid fumes somewhere in the house or what. Never had such a problem before.

The possible suspects seem to be volcanic activity, burning coal and/or flatulence. Any recent increase in such activity?

our elderly labrador suffers from flatulence and lies in front of the fireplace in which, during the winter, we burn logs and a little household coal!!!!

Seriously though, the article was interesting but hardly applies here. Possibly the fact that our drawing room is to the front of the house abutting the street which is permanently lined with parked cars. So it is probably to do with exhaust fumes. Secondary glazing would probably help to keep the fumes out!
