Perhaps you need to be a band manager to get more page space, but the smallish amount written on Jon Maine and Save was I thought good, but could have been better. More extensive would have helped a lot.

Still all publicity is good - as they say.

Well, there is no external control at all over how much space is given over to anything in the press - two years ago the Sunday Times did a very large piece, last year nothing at all as they'd done it the year before, etc etc. The press chooses what and who to feature and sometimes a great deal of effort gets nothing at all. A certain 'leading conservationist' I know spent last Sunday evening cycling halfway across London in the rain to do an interview for Today - which wasn't used at all.

However, SAVE couldn't afford to pay for such publicity, and if this inspires others to take on a wreck and become interested in conservation then it's all good news.

Yes of course more would have been better, and I see that the two hours a photographer spent last Sunday with Jon had no effect as I think they are Jon's pics anyhow! I also note that it's reported as II not the II* it actually is.

But the house looks beautiful, and thank you Jon - a marvellous rescue, and thanks for all the time I know you spent with the photographer and reporter. Good luck this week with the heating switch on - I look forward to hearing about how it all goes.

And I suggest everyone buys this year's BaR catalogue, which has more from Jon on the house, and an article on VAT too, and another from Gervase - who wrote very amusingly about his adventures with house and the Restored to Glory experience.

So thank you both. It's all in a good cause!

And I'm now sitting next to a wonderful new oak window fitted this morning by Biff Vernon! It feels odd without the draughts...

Having done an awful lot of charity fundraising I know the score on the press. As a couple of individuals what we did was hard to get publicised, oh and then one year in come Powergen with a round the cathedral race.... nice big company, for 6 weeks running they had the centre page spread.... raised £500 for the local hospice, in the same year we raised £3,000 with our fishing competition.

I wasn't belittleing what Jon had done, more bemoaning the poor treatment of such a good cause.

Yes, about page 6 I think.
I go out in the morning feed the sheep and then pop up the drive to pick up the paper, and always read the homes section while walking the dog back.

Do they cook breakfast as well?

Would be helpful as my wife is in Belfast this week, well only just as her flight was delayed from 6.50 until 10pm and from city airport to International.... I'm glad it's not the return leg, she got cancelled the last time she was there and managed to get another flight home to Manchester instead of B'ham, I went to fetch her and she was in a foul mood all weekend........

I think I must have broken their photographers camera <IMG SRC="http://www.periodproperty.co.uk/discussing/smileys/smile.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=""> they didn't use any of his piccies. They mis-quoted me and paid poor attention to detail. But hey not wishing to sound ungrateful it was good coverage.

I am glad to hear it has stirred up lots of interest for "heaps of delight".

I worked all weekend ( barring sneaking off to post on PPUK and read a bit of the Sunday Times) to instal the gshp, 13 hours Saturday and 17 on Sunday. Plumbed up the under floor heating manifolds and installed power supply to gshp.

Extra wiring to UF heat today and commissioned the heat pump too. We have heat at last!!

We did a little work to the web-site sat night and installed a hit counter, had 116 hits on sunday.

Looking forward to Wednesday night and Bill Bryson.

Well I am bloody knackered so off to bed.
