Hi all,
most of the downstairs rooms in our farmhouse have exposed beams at roughly 12" intervals, some original, some modern from the "renovation" in the '80's. These beams also are the rafters that support the 1st floor floors as you would expect.
Currently they have been infilled with plasterboard nailed to battons leaving a 4-6" gap to the floorboards above which has been filled with Rockwool. The plasterboard infills have simply been painted with emulsion and look pretty awful and dont "seal" (or even fit well) onto the rafters!
I am looking for suggestions on how you have treated these "in-fills" in your houses. I realise originally the house would have had a plastered ceiling on lathes (can still see the nail holes in the beams) but I am not keen on covering them all up again!
Particularly wondered if anyone has plastered in between the beams and if this improved noise/dust coming down from above. Or anyone fitted subtle recessed lighting/downlighters?
All suggestions gratefully received as I am looking for ideas really so no wrong answers here
Cheers,
Paul.
