Ok, so much has been said on the subject about buying one to drain flooded cellars.

I'm going to get one to water my tree planting using the water from the moat.

Can anyone recommend a make and model?

Where did you get it from?

Has it been reliable?

How long have you used it?

But why does a pump that has a head of 11m only come with 10m of cable?

Also looking at its specs, it can do a max of 320l/m, but at 3m it drops to 200, at 7.5m it's down to 50 - it doesn't say what it'll be at 11m, about 1/4l/m :?:

Also its output size is 38m, but it copes with 38mm solids, that sounds a tight fit to me.

Now the moat isn't 11m down, but the trees do go for a fair distance, so a long hose is required and I'm thinking when we get round to excavating the well, something with a good head may come in handy for that as well.

Its zero at 11m. If you plot a graph with flow rate on one axis, and head on the other, then pencil in the points given by the spces, which are head (at zero flow) and max flow (at zero head), then draw a straight line between the 2 points, that line shows you what the pump will do IRL.

plant irises in white polystyrene plant trays( the waste trays your local garden centre gets off the dutchman) and create floating rafts.
i havent tried it personally, but seen it done. the long roots help trap some of the floating particulates that can clog your filter.
no good in a cellar, but just the thing for a moat. also, the garden center will be really glad to get rid of them.
polystyrene can also be used in the bottom of big tubs and raised beds as drainage and as a filler.

They undertook a drainage survey for our cellar problems and then installed a pumping system...very helpful and friendly....I'm sure they'd give you some advice on pumps.
