Just for info, Avoncroft is open from March to October and there is nearly always access to the windmill - I highly recommend the whole museum though - though we couldn't go to this weekend as we were just flying in from New Zealand (forgive the name dropping, but have to say other than the pretty colonial late victorian houses, there is a dearth of period property over there, for obvious reasons!)

I managed to take in the slate mill at Llanberis, the Woollen mill at Trefriw (from the outside) and had a lovely salmon and pasta sat next to the turning water wheel of the mill pub in Llangollen, while steam trains came and went on the other side of the river. Not bad for a stag weekend.

I was in Llangollen last month and couldn't believe how busy it was - I guess the steam fair and the beer festival had something to do with it.

We did the Pumping Station at Claverton, near Bath which was fascinating, but sadly not actually working! No-one there knew it was National Mills Weekend either so we will go back to see the wheel turning in a few weeks time.
Well worth a visit and a lovely spot near the Kennet and Avon canal.
