Struggling with Burnt Sand Mastic!

Argh! I hope someone out there can give me some tips on using this. I've played around the consistency and think i've got it about right. I went from crubly to gooey to somewhere in between a bit more like playdough. I've applied fillets to the sides of the windows a bit like puttying glass, roughly putting the amount along the join then running over with a small trowel. A few frustrating moments and quite a bit of spillage but they look ok. However, I can't work out how to do the top join without it all falling out. I'm also struggling with continuing the side joins around the edge of the sill. Making the corner just isn't working for me at the moment.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mine was a bit like dough, so moist enough to stay together, but not so that it oozes oil.
I then just used a wooden spatula, home made from a sliver of oak and spent an age gradually pressing it in.

Thanks for the reply. Just finished the 2nd window. Seems to be ok, amazing the difference just a tiny but of oil/rosin makes and interstingly after being sat in the sun for a few minutes the consistency improved. Does anyone know if it's worth warming the oils slightly before mixing?

Also. How long before this is likely to be weather-proof?

It's fairly weatherproof straight away as the oil sheds water. It may take a very long time to go hard, weeks or months, though the rosin, if you've used it, speeds up the process.

thanks Biff, it's not in a particularly exposed location but presumably it's not likely to wash off in heavy rain?
