Stripping paint from aluminium?

Hello, does anyone know the easiest and cheapest way to strip paint from aluminium?

I understand klingStrip should not be used on aluminium. There is another police stripper - Peelaway 7 - which can be used on aluminium but it costs about £100 / 4msq, which is a bit much.

I think we're hoping to polish the aluminium when stripped, so does anyone know the best way to do this? It's for 1950's kitchen units.

Polish with Solvol, unless repainting.

Aluminium is a strange metal.
It pretends to be inert but a highly reactive metal hides under an oxide coat.
Many chemicals react with freshly scraped aluminium.
Even methylene Chloride needs to be used with care and not for prolonged periods.
It can cause damage.

Damn! I was just about to have a relaxing afternoon, sloshing methylene chloride on my aluminium.

S'pose I'll just have watch TV instead.

There are others strippers if you do a google. Not used any of them.

However, it does need using with care and not simply allowed to sit and eat into the surface. Put on and take off and wash off. Thankfully, unlike steel, you can use plenty of water on aluminium.

I'm not so sure about leaving it polished and unpainted - shows every mark!
