Have got the builders in to deal with the exterior walls to deal with penetrating damp. Stripping all the cement render off the original stone walls, although our first choice, is not viable due to cost and the fact that there are numerous doorways/ windows etc which have been filled with breeze blocks etc and a more modern extension as well.
Builders have taken off some render where it was a bit loose, around a kind of small courtyard wall which is not integral to the house. This looks nice in its unrendered condition and we'd like to leave it like this. My concern however is that where the unrenedered wall meets the rendered wall, this will be an opportunity for damp to get into the rendered wall.
Any thoughts?
