String bags and geraniums

Maybe slightly off topic - but bear with me.

We have had a bumper crop of onions this year, and the string bags we used to hang them up in the pantry in were nibbled by mice. So rather more holes than they started with...

I looked on t'google for string bags, and came across

Cheap and cheerful, very good indeed and rather better when shopping than placcy bags.

As it is the same price p and p no matter what you get (under a fiver, free for over a hundred quid's worth of orders) I bulked out my order of four eco friendly string bags with some 'Faith in Nature' lavender and geranium shampoo, conditioner, and bath foam stuff. All kind to the planet, my hair and skin and my septic tank.

Ordered on Sunday evening, e-mail yesterday to say they had been despatched. Arrived today, packed in recycled box in recycled paper shavings.

Really pleased with the bags, and the shampoo and bath stuff I used today and I am impressed. The bath stuff has another 100mls free (while stocks last), and the scent is wonderful.

I see I can bulk buy and refill containers. There is also a wide range of other eco-friendly products which I am about to order. So it makes sense to order more, to offset the delivery charge and fuel etc costs.

No I have no connection etc etc - just a satisfied customer, thought others with eco-friendly leanings and septic tanks may be interested.

I also smell rather good (it won't last... glamour isn't my strong point).

Do string bags have some advantage over plaiting them? The onions that is, not the shampoos.

I got one of these 5 years ago when I injured my wrists and couldn't do carrier bags any more (the shoulder bag type obviously) and its still going strong.. :O) got the odd extra hole in it after all these years use but doing a hell of a lot better than a placcy bag would have tho I end up struggling up the hill from teh market looking like a pack mule cos you ca fit a hell of a lot in them

PS I think the Turtlebags are the same as the other ones - the white short handled at least.

Perhaps woven plastic bags are greener that string? Theyre made from used carrier bags that are in excess and would only end up in landfill. String otoh has to be bought thus manufactured for bags.

They aren't sisal - or indeed 'string' really - they are organic cotton. Once bought, as long as kept away from mice, they are breathable (useful where veg is concerned) and last many years. They also expand and can carry large amounts.

I am sure that they don't mind the sacrifice... anyhow, the plants aren't killed for the oil, just harvested. As with lavender.

Geranium plants are very easy to grow from cuttings, and it is a commercial crop with wide medicinal use.
