Stove flue thermometer

Hi I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to tell me of a good thermometer to buy. Ivor, can you recommend one? Thankfully the stove pipe is magnetic, so easy to attach there and read at eye level. We are thatched and should have got a thermometer a year ago when we moved in. A little bit wiser now and all the more so for finding this great site.

Surprising how little one can tell about the fire temperature just from looking at the firebox.

I've got a stovax one, make sure you wire it onto the flue pipe as well, as the magnets can fail of they get too hot (apparently).
I keep meaning to paint the little red needle a different colour as it's quite hard to see under the fireplace arch.

we have a "flue systems.com" one,it works,seems a bit tacky and has a black pointer on a black background! (put a blob of "snowpake" on it) would not recomend it.phil.

Good decision, Elizabeth. Keeping the needle as much as possible in the "Optimum" zone will help considerably to extend the life of your flue liner.
