Thanks Shelli. It's all right for you Cumbrians, living where it rains every day, but for us in the Great Lincolnshire Desert we don't really know how to cope with falling water. We didn't get a single raindrop from the 23rd of March to the 6th of May. The last few days have got the average back on track.

Bet you wish you had more hills!! they soak it all up and make deep little lakes n stuff in valleys - 's dead pretty n all

Yeah, and the lakes aren't just in the valleys. I climbed up Red Screes last week and found a little lake right at the tippimost top. Must rain a lot there. (I like mountains where it only takes 20 minutes to get from the top to the pub.)

The 'moat' we dug around our house to take the external level below the internal is looking like the real thing now....it has about 12" of water in it all the way round!!! Still, it's good to see that the level is still well below the floor inside and if the river does come up any more it'll overtop on the other side and run away from us At the moment our stables are out of use and the horses are under the barn, the chickens can't get to their roost and I've lost 3 bags of feed. Other than that, we have a smaller garden and our house is sat in a river!!! Pics to follow when i have time. The geese and ducks are loving it though!! My back field and paddock across the river are almost all under water, a total of about 4 acres. Still, it's a price you pay to have a river in your back garden. I'm not complaining, just dealing with it and breathing a sigh of relief that it's not affecting our house!!

Although our problems in the Holy Land of North Norfolk are nothing like as devastating as many other areas mentioned in this thread, our little brush with water is quite a lighthearted relief: we were woken at 4 am by our labrador, who is usually very laid back about life, he was rushing around the bedroom with a slipper, nudging us and pawing back the duvet. We thought he wanted to go out for a walk; eventually we got up and followed him downstairs to where he stood at the threshold of the scullery. Rain water had seeped under the door and was flooding into the downstairs loo. It was deep enough to cover our slippers! and, more importantly to the labrador, dangerously near the cupboard where we keep a big tub of dog food!
The cause was, too much rain for the soakaways to deal with, heavage of the paviours which are now sloping nicely towards the back door..... oh well, we've dried out now and labrador has been much praised.

I think that might be stretching the meaning of the word "mountain" to breaking point.

I suspect the word "lump" might be more appropriate.

Well, it's been a bit wet here in deepest Shropshire - we got off lightly, we're on a hill, just our cellar has flooded.

The groundwater levels seem to be receding very slowly - I pumped the cellar out today, as it all seemed pretty dry outside, but within an hour the water was back to it's previous height.

Ludlow way has been more than a bit wet - they had a bridge collapse under the strain of a swollen river. Ironbridge Gorge has suffered as well, it normally gets problems with the Severn bursting it's banks but this time it's the runoff from the surrounding hills that's causing the problems.

Drove back to my yorkshire cottage from Manchester Monday evening. dreading the floods as heard on the radio, but the drive was rain free. When I woke up and looked out of the window this morning I saw an unusual river flowing down the lane. Ah! I thought the rains must have arrived while I was sleeping. When I finally staggered out to inspect the damage I discovered that the main water feed to my hamlet (6" diam pipe) has sprung a leak in the middle of the lane. I phoned Yorkshire water and reported it and I think I overheard some one in the background saying "dam!" :lol:

Frank - I should think Yorkshire Water are looking for as many ways as possible to get rid of water, at the moment. So they may be grateful for your contribution!

Most of Hull came to a stand still on Monday. One of my work colleagues spent the night in our spare room, as his route home was blocked, and there were people canoeing down the main road. I've never seen anything like this around here.

Its so flat around here that there's no where for the water to go, so it just hangs around until the drains clear.

There's a main road that dips down to go under a rail bridge. It had flooded and even overflowed. Must have been over 8ft deep. How we laughed when various 4*4 tried to tackle it. One chap was a bit more sensible:
