hi, looking for advice if available.
briefly, i wish to re-instate a lean-to shed to a high, stone (mainly granite) and mortar wall. The question is how to secure a wooden wall plate to literally the top of the wall. this is the level of the roof apex. in other words, the wall plate will sit on top of the wall - there's a sort of channel built into the top of the wall. my question is (i) does the wall beam/plate need to be fixed with bolts to the underlying stone or would gravity and the weight of the planned bangor slated roof /joists etc be sufficient? it looks like there was a beam 3" x 8"(?) secured against the upper/inner aspect of the wall originally which was secured with some type of cantilever bracket. i wonder if the wall plate beam was kept in position by this second beam flush with the top of the wall (visible if you look closely at attached picture)? any help or thoughts appreciated.
