still on the limewash beams

Hello,well since my last post on stripping paint from beams that I can thankfully say is now done,they are made of pine with a nice beaded detail along the bottom,I would still like to lime wash them to keep things bright,or use a mat emulsion...but I don't know what mix to use or what effect I should achieve...any help please...thanks

Please don't use emulsion! You will just give someone else (or yourself if you stay in the house for years) the same job you've just had to do to get rid of it.

Use lime wash. It's perfect for wood. I have my plank ceiling lime washed and you can still see the wood grain, but get the nice painted effect. In future if you want to remove it you can scrub it off with a stiff brush.

Go to the Old House Store web site http://www.oldhousestore.co.uk/acatalog/Decoration.html and on this page select the link to lime wash and lime paint and have a look there. Buy the hand painted colour swatches, Buxton and St Astier are both great, and then you can choose the colour just as you would emulsion.

Old House Store are great for mail order. All you need is a plastic sheet for the floor, a water sprayer (mister, like you use for house plants, but a bit bigger) and a lime wash brush, or thick emulsion brush. Its easy to use. See their technical information.
