Sticky paint on skirting board

I recently stripped a skirting board with a heat gun and despite it doing an ok job a pinkish paint residue has been left on the timber. Using the heat gun on a low heat it is possible to remove this layer back to the wood but its very very slow. I've since tried a chemical stripper and the only way to shift the residue is with a fine wire wool. But again this is very very slow. Having already stripped a door I never had this issue before.

Any one got ideas on how to remove a stubborn paint residue like this? I was hoping to do the other skirting boards in the room but at this rate I'm going to end up painting them since its so slow.

It sounds like primer (the paint applied to bare wood before adding the top coats). It is nasty stuff. I have always resorted to chemical stripping and wire wool, but I'm sure other info will be forthcoming.

Good point. Does sound like primer alright. Hadn't thought of that.

Use a scraper, such as piece of broken glass or wood chisel. i personaly grind up scrapers out of old metal files and keep an oil stone and some oil by my side and touch up the edge every 5 minutes or so, this is much easier (now) if you use a diamond impregnated "stone".
