Standing buildings project.

After attending the LH funded "southwell standing buildings project" with Dr Chris King from notts university I did 1/25th scale drawings of the north/south range of my house and having done them made a model.It is not yet finished but when it is I intend drawing and modeling the east range,I have attached some not very good pics of the model before detailing /distressing.

Wow. Mrs FF has made a pretty detailed 3D computer model of our house using sketchup, but I've not been tempted to turn it into a physical entity (nor do I have the skill) - a very impressive heirloom.

I found my attachment history and deleted it! I hope it was not me clogging up the system! if so sorry!.( On the first attempt I was told the limit had been reached,I deleted my history and was then able to attach!)

Thanks for the kind comments,still much to do on this range and then the east range to do,I have learnt a lot from building it,it is evident that the house was built in five phases,the center bay being first,high status,using a lot of chamfered timber,the north end next with less timber,roughly hewn with movement and repairs visible.The south end uses recycled timber with unused mortice holes,some is nicely shaped but not for where it now is and some are still a bit "tree" shaped.The floors seem to be inserted and the bays occupied as seperate dwellings,the floor levels are different in each bay and some doorways are very low to "duck under" the roof plate and tie beams.The aisle must be later as the enclosed timber is very weathered and the south range may well be georgian.The model uses cocktail sticks for joint pegs!

That is a really high class model and worthy of exhibiting in some show when it is finished.
Is precision scale modelling one of your hobbies or a newly acquired on?
I ask as precision ship modelling is my hobby and if that is your first attempt then I am extremely jealous.

Thanks for the kind comments,not done any scale buildings before but as a lad built model boats and aircraft (not scale) I have found that measuring and drawing takes more time than building the model (especially the sections).I have now started to draw the east range and have discovered that it looks to have been built in two phases and had a roof with a lower pitch (some of the principal rafters are still in the roofspace) and the void that shows up when the ground floor and first floor drawings are superimposed is not the priest hole that is talked about in the villiage but is in fact a dissused chimney.The house has now stopped any further work on the model as a chunk of the bathroom ceiling has come down (plaster on reeds under a lime ash floor) so need to fix this before continuing.

I`m no builder but I have done some sketches for a "lighthouse" summer house for the bank of the river at the end of the garden.
