Stair treads

I wondered if anyone knew where I could get some stick-on stair treads, preferably sisal or some other natural material. We can't get a good runner for our stairs until we've finished renovation, but I do need something on them in the meantime. I've already looked at the ecco trading ones, but my stairs are an awkward shape, and two of them won't fit the ecco treads.

Anybody got any other ideas?

Likewise, is there any particular stair rope that you would recommend?

Corrugated cardboard?

Thanks Moo - but I think that might be outside our budget, espcially if we go for the Georgian corrugation, rather than yer plain old Arts n' Crafts......

In your searches did you find any other suppliers for the stair mats..? I've been looking for something like that for some time as I'm dieing to take up the ratty old stair carpet but worried that bare boards would be a little slippery so they'd be ideal but I'd much rather get them mail order than have to trapse into london..

If you glue something on, it will probably leave a nasty mess when you try to take it off again.

We lived in our four storey house without a stair carpet for four years and we dont wear shoes indoors. I removed all the protruding nails and tacks and after a while we stopped getting splinters in our feet and the bare treads became beautifully smooth and comfortable.

No splinters, and no glue needed with corrugated (ours was bog-standard Victorian - too poor to afford the Georgian). Drawing pins worked a treat and (with care) were reusable.

I finally gave up and bought a sisal runner and cut it into 9"X28" inch strips, took it to a carpet guy who bound the edges for me. I then tacked it down using a very small wood nail (small nail - large head on the nail) on each corner. Just saparate the fibers a litle bit and tap it into place.
