Doing a bit of work at the weekend and noticed some stains on the bottom corner of the bathroom door - investigation shows that water had been running from the shower and getting under the flooring and had soaked through the boards.
I have had the floor boards up the ends of two of which were rotten. The joist on which they sit was also wet and wood on the top was quite soft but this only seem to have penitrated for the top 1/16 - 1/8 of an inch. There is also one further board which I cannot get out which has some rot in and presumable some moisture trapped between the board and the joist. We are not talking loads of water and it had not run down the joist and reached the ceiling or anything - just small quantities of water over a few months
Nevertheless, I have managed to expose most of the damp area and after 36 hours it is drying out quite well. The plan of action is this - I would a appreciate a critical response.
1. Let it all dry out for a week.
2. Put some wood hardener on the top of the joist if it is still soft once dried ?????
3. Splash aound a load of wood preservative
4. Replace the two rotten boards
Oh, and I have fixed the leak!
Am I missing anything?
