I have tanked one of my rooms yes I know.... but despite installing a French drain, lime scratch and devil coat the floor level in the room is four foot below exterior ground level and the lime was staying damp to the touch.
Leaving aside the 'moralities' of this I just thought I'd impart some advice if anyone is intending to lime plaster over similar tanking material.
The tanking (Thoroseal - at least it was bought from a lime supplier! - Mike Wye) was applied to the devil coat.
Without it even occurring to me that the tanking would have zero suction I proceeded to plaster the whole wall.
Needless to say the top of the wall (bare devil coat) pulled in beautifully (crazing aside - see other post) but the area with the tanking took three days! and lots of careful management to ensure there's no line between the plaster on the lime and the plaster on the tanking.
I've been advised the best course of action (now I find out!) is to treat the tanking like a fresh devil coat (i.e. green hard) and apply a single coat to tanked area only, before leaving it overnight to stiffen up. Assuming it has stiffened sufficiently the whole wall can then be treated as a single unit and plastered as normal.
I'll let you know how I get on.
I await the derision.....
