We are in the process of painstakingly removing all the the multitude of polysterene wallpaper & cement layers from our solid wall cottage........
During this process my mind keeps drifting to the "what I am going to do when I FINALLY remove it all" scenario. The rooms aren`t particularly big........but we would like to add some sort of insulation if we can.......... I am presuming that sheepswool is probably the order of the day here........together with a limeplaster finish.
I presume that we will need some sort of pressure treated studwork to house the insulation and then lathe & limeplaster. I am hoping that someone can give me a bit more info on the hows of such an activity............... Ie is there any particular type of studwork that should be used, can the studs be fixed directly to the stone wall or is some sort of membrane required at the point where the stone touches the timber?, is an air gap required somewhere (either before or after the insulation), how much of a gap is needed to allow the plaster to form a key before coming into contact (or not?!?) with the insulation.
Oh...and if someone has an creative ideas on how we tackle plastering around the windows...........
hopefully there is a picture attached to this post somewhere..........
