solid fuel rayburn wanted

We are looking for a solid fuel rayburn, preferably a royal with twin ovens and twin lids. We are flexible about colour and flue side. We are in Dorset but are willing to travel (reasonable distance) for the right one. We will also consider an oil conversion if in good nick. Thanks in anticipation. Kel.

We have a white Rayburn Royal circa 1970 for sale! We live in Leicestershire, which I realise is a fair distance. We moved into the house last October, and do not require it anymore. It seems in reasonable working order - we have had it working, and it apparently used to heat our 8 radiators. There are a few enamel chips, but it's in good nick. Let me know if you are interested! We wouldn't want much for it! We can send you photos if you want.

Have a white solid fuel in Worcester due to be removed in the next 2 weeks if you are interested. In use up until December 2005.

It's a shame you're so far south - up here in the north of Scotland solid fuel Rayburns are often free for uplift as Government heating grants are being used to replace them with new oil and gas boiler-based heating systems, plus gas or electric cookers.

Which seems quite daft to me as gas, oil and electric charges continue to soar!

If I had more time, I'd be sorely tempted to collect the free ones and and transport them to England for sale!

I agree. My parents live in Aberdeen but it is too far for them to take one down in the back of their polo!

We have a solid fuel Rayburn Royal, cream with 2 covered hotplates and I think one oven although there is another compartment below the main oven. It has a circular grate and, I believe, is only for heating water. We live near Buckingham and it has been disconnected from the system but not yet moved out of the house. There are some chips but generally it's in good condition, although its not been used for some years.

We're in Scottie too (GlenIsla) where are you seeing all the free rayburns advertised??

We've missed three SF Rayburns, a SF Stanley and one other (solid fuel but with electronic controls, can't remember the make) since Christmas - all free uplift and in ScotAds. All were in Aberdeenshire, Moray or Highlands. Look in heating as well as cookers, also some people list under Solid fuel cooker, not under Rayburn.

Prices for these are all over the place too - some people think a 30-year-old Royal is worth £800-1,000, someone else will ask £300.

The free uplift and £300 priced ones go very fast; the high priced ones can be advertised for weeks.

Almost without exception, the people we've called have either been elderly or had elederly relatives whose SF cooker was being replaced under a government grant scheme to replace their central heating with modern gas boilers (not good timing given the way gas prices are going!).

Hi, We have a solid fuel rayburn, white enamel, two ovens (one is a warming oven), we used it up until 2003 when we changed over to oil (prices were cheap then!) it was very good and heated 9 radiators. The enamel does need some work in a few places. We live in Norfolk which again may be a bit far for you but thought you might be interested.
