Solar Panels Grade 2 Listing

Just wondering has anyone out there managed to get consent to affix solar panels either to a listed building itself or to anywhere within the curtilage of one. Our understanding is that for our L.A. it's an absolute no-no for the listed building itself, but we're wondering whether solar panels on the roof of a new timber framed garage we have permission for might get approval.

Have you asked or are just assuming?
Although this seems to make your assumption correct, and means you can't put them on the garage

The panels must not be installed on a building that is within the grounds of a listed building.

We've given permission for them on listed buildings where they aren't visible from the ground - Usually in roof valleys between double-pile roofs. And ground-mounted in well-screened parts of the garden

I'm sure I remember seeing a programme where someone with a listed house right next to Chester city walls got permission to put lots of panels all over the roofs of their outbuildings, which were in plain view from the city walls.

The CO objected but it got through on appeal. It didn't look good when it was done.

It's got to be worth a try though if the panels are to go on the roof of a new outbuilding if you don't think they will be too intrusive . I regret now not putting panels on my garage when I built it - the far side of the roof, not visible from my house and reasonably obscured from my neighbour's view as well, gets quite a lot of sun and would have been ideal.

solar panels are the work of the devil (imho) and on a listed property??? I shudder!!!!
