Snowed in

Now Day 3, and I miss my Landrover, which is completely stuck in a drift on our track, along with my Dad's 4x4

I can't even walk to my friendly neighbour's house (2/3 a mile away), because the snow drifts are too deep, so I can't ask her to pick up the animal feeds for me. Just dragged a few things up from town on a tarpaulin, not really enough for 24 hungry mouths though and god knows how the sheep are faring ( not my sheep, but I feel they're my responsibility to an extent).

We need a thaw! Anyone else stuck?

2-3 inches of snow here but the temperatures haven't been cold enough for it to cause any problems on the roads, where it has just been slushy and is now all gone. I was near Nottingham this weekend and the main roads were all clear, though there was one nasty bit on the A1 where the nearside lane was suddenly covered in snow that had been blown off a field onto the road, so I can imagine drifting snow causing problems where you are.

I'm usually pretty resilient to winter but this extended cold weather is wearing a bit thin now!

Where the cars are stuck is where the 25mph east wind is blowing all the snow off the fields, just as you saw on your bit of the A1. In places it's 4 ft deep, over around 50 metres, so too much to dig out, though we spent all Saturday trying. Dad got stuck , not really knowing where the track was, and we got stuck, trying to tow him out. Fortunately they were able to taxi home and they have another car, so are alright. But we're not!

I've healed well but pulled a muscle in my rib a couple of weeks ago doing too much too soon so am back on the strong pain killers, and am severely anaemic from the illness, so there's a way to go but certainly not going to let my fluff children starve with me being feeble! :lol:

Oh dear Joce, it sounds awful where you are. It's not too bad here, but I am utterly fed up with winter now. I heard a piece on Radio 4 this evening where they were digging sheep out of 10 foot snowdrifts, hoping to find them alive -this was in The Isle of Man I think.
Just got back from a week climbing in Spain, it was hot every day, we were worrying about sunburn. (Luckily tan lines don't show on me.) Couldn't believe what we came back to! I thought it'd all be gone, but no! More snow! In late March! This time last year we were having a heatwave! What's happening?

There was another peice on Radio 4 this evening where the interviewer, Eddie Mair I think, was interviewing a lady in Uig, and got her to stand by her window to describe to the rest of us snowbound unfortunates, the feel of sun on her face........

I'm touched by your concern, worms, but I assure that my Urals are always kept well insulated, even though the Uralary track needs regular drainage.

Still snowed in, and Feltwell is meant to be dropping by, en route to Boston. We all know Feltwell is a force to be reckoned with, but if he gets here, he deserves a medal! Hope he's remembered to pack ice picks and crampons. Hope it snows even more whilst he's here, and then he can be set to work :wink:

I hate to sound smug, but here in SE22 the roads and pavements are clear and dry, and the house's extra insulation is keeping us toasty warm (though it's a bit nippy outside).
Mind you, it isn't as pretty as those snow scenes we see on the TV news.
