I've got a small patch of damp which i didn't notice until i tried to paint over it and all of the lining paper came off in chunks.
Experiments with a hose suggest the small hood over the back door is allowing rain water onto the wall. In the rain the wall looks no wetter by the door than anywhere else.
Question 1: is do you think a little extra water on the outside could cause the damp?
Q2: i don't really want to build a gutter - it wil spoil the look of the hood. Is there anything else I can do (ie can i waterproof the wall without causing damage or the bricks going all shiney?
Q3: assuming i do build a gutter to take the water away from the wall how long will the bricks take to dry enough for me to but the linning paper back and paint over? Is there any thing I could do to speed drying up?
Thanks
Chris
