small daub panel came away..

its about 2 feet by 8 inches and when i started to repair a small crumbling section in a bottom corner i noticed the whole thing was coming away from the wattle/studs , there was nothing what so ever holding it to the wall so its now on the floor still in one piece , whats the best way to re-secure this to the studs behind? i dont want to re-mix it as its quite a nice shape and its still in one piece anyway so remixing it would be a last resort.
any ideas guys?

ha ha , i did consider no nails. i tried a thick slurry of clay and a dash of nhl but the blummin thing broke up when i tried to put it back. i will re-mix it and put it back but i am a bit disappointed because this is the only panel out of many that ive repaired that i have had to remix like this.
Remixing daub then guys , thers no need to add anything to it is there?

I'm assuming that the panel isn't simply a lump of daub, but still has the wattle "mesh" embedded in it - is that right?

If so, you could (if necessary) jam some new cross-piece supports into the void between the studs (you may find fixing holes and slots chiselled into their inside faces - you whittle points onto the ends of the cross-pieces, jam one point into one side and then slide the other point down the slot the other side). Once you have this firm base to attach the panel to, drill appropriately positioned small holes in it. Pass hemp twine through the holes and round the cross-piece supports. Tie tightly (perhaps making small grooves in the daub so you can "bury" the twine beneath a skim of plaster.

its not wattle Penners its mud and stud , so there are only vertical studs tied off to few horizontal laths that are nailed to the studs in the timber frame, the hazel studs were still in place.
ive mashed the old daub up now with some water getting ready to re apply it to the studs , i think i will leave it for a day or two to make it more workable.
do you think a splash of lime in the mixture will help or is there really any need for it?
