Slug in my loft

Don’t know if this is unusual and it’s a bit of a triviality but I’ve just found a slug in the loft of my “lean to” roof. It’s climbing up a side party wall within the loft were there is no obvious route to the outside. There has been a small amount of roof leakage down this wall, small trickles in heavy rain so it’s had a good supply of water to drink but what on earth could it find to eat in a loft space? I noticed this slug about a week ago and its still there, still alive and presumably quite happy and healthy.

You must be growing hostas in your lean-to roof.

Judging by our vain attempts to grow them in the garden, slugs eat little else.

Penners - judging by my success last year, slugs eat nothing other than my pea plants. Maybe you've got the posh arm of the family - with a more refined palate!

BTW what is the collective noun for slugs - they only seem to hunt en masse.

A slime? A trail? An ooze?

Have you noticed that slugs and snails don't seem interested in weeds - only in the plants you don't want them to munch?

I only noticed that slugs and snails go 'upwards' to rest/hide during the day - this includes up into trees and into roofs, where they can. I have noticed also that slugs browse algae - the green coating on walls and paving - so presumably they could be eating any 'growth' in your roofspace, however minimal.

The last kitchen I ripped out... one base unit had a big slug living on the back. Presumably, it slithered out at night to munch whatever it could find.

I found three of the blighters in my loft 3 floors up.

Can we mention wasp/bee nests?

I also have three of those too.

Only one wife though, shame. :lol:

According to this, it's a "cornucopia", but as with anything on Wikipedia, I suspect that it should be taken with a pinch of salt*.



* the natural enemy of the slug, apparently.
