Sloping house interfering with morning tea

It is so tiresome to have to get up at six and go through the cold downstairs passageway to make tea for His Lordship, this is a gentle introduction to the day. It started out just fine on my bedside table but I no longer had room for my books and things so I moved it to a butler's tray table in a different place in the bedroom, and since then have been getting very frustrated that one nozzle spurts gloriously and delivers a nice full cup and the other doesn't, so now we have arguments about who gets the full cup and who gets the empty one. I have just accidentally spilt a pint of water over the butler's tray table and the whole lot sloshed to one end of the tray. From this I conclude the house is badly sloping, the lower nozzle delivers the water, and I will have to move house to get the WakeCup to work! :lol:

Good Lord, a Teasmade! I had no idea anyone still made those - my in-laws love theirs so much, they have a little collection in their garage gleaned from car boot sales just in case their one dies.

Yours looks very posh, much more so than the original 1970's ones.

What you need is the traditional approach to levelling wobbly appliances and furniture - beer mats!

You just cant beat the morning stumble, the stubbed toe , the raised floor board nail catching your sock (the one you promise to fix every morning), the freezing temperature shivers , the blank stare at the forever boiling kettle while you thoughtlessly get the mugs prepared for that morning coffee to the sound of peppa pig and the little princess , then the first scratch of the day and the 10 minute brain dead period sipping a poorly made cuppa and picking the nights accumulations out of the old snozzer to get things underway.

Catherine - I'll do anything, within reason. My CV is a complete mess as I've tried acting, teaching, recruitment consultancy, reception, sandwich making, cleaning, pant packing, cold calling, bar maiding, waitressing, cooking, salsa dancing, and singing. I haven't got along with any of those things very well.

Er, moving swiftly on, a hi-tech alternative to beermats for levelling things is to use old CDs. They are actually pretty good as beermats as well. I don't mean actual musical CDs, but those that often come free with various magazines.

I just try to stand with one leg longer than the other, this way all my furniture seems to stand up straight.
Alternatively you could wear one high heeled shoe and one slip on for the same effect.

Alternatively Rob, you could just be a freak like me - 6'1" standing on my right leg, and 6' 2 1/2" standing on my left. Maybe I was just genetically equipped to live in old houses, or to walk endlessly around hills (1 way only of course)

Job hunting is a little slow, thanks for asking, but I've not really put full effort into it yet. I only finished work today, although as you can imagine my commitment has not been 100% over the last few weeks. I only need to pop back their once more now, to pick up my "cleaned out" works laptop, so mentally I can move on. I've been in touch with some agencies that I know well, which has yielded a couple of promising leads, but I really need to get my backside in gear and get registered with a load more agencies (even though most of them are the biggest load of sharks on the planet).

Yes, but it does appear to have the Nazi eagle symbol stuck on top. As the website says "An enterprising gentleman inherited exquisite antique coffee machines from his grandfather" and it's an Italian machine, I'm guessing that the grandfather must have been Mussolini.

Presumably it will also only dispense white coffee.

Feltwell, it's early days for you but I'm certain you'll find something pretty quickly. When you have to, it happens, and I hate to make such a sweeping generalisation but most long term unemployed are only so because they have the luxury of being able to be ( like myself)

Not heard of Godwin's law before. Shouldn't be the end though - as from your link it states "someone inevitably criticizes some point made in the discussion by comparing it to beliefs held by Hitler and the Nazis." I wasn't doing that, but merely pointing out that the eagle on top of the coffee machine looks suspiciously like the Nazi eagle symbol.

Seriously, I can see why you want to go back to work - independence is a good thing.

I do like the new teasmade though. Alas not much chance of a lay in and a cup of tea here, the 3 ankle biters make sure of that!

Feltwell, I'm sure that in no time at all you'll have your children trained up to bring you tea in return for small bribes.

And yes, it would be nice to regain a sense of independence, and just to leave the house a little more.
