SKY dish - planning

Any advice out there about obtaining planning consent for a SKY mini-dish?

Grade 1; Conservation Area; garden not an option because of trees; no cable TV here - but those apart, no problems!

I seem to recall that the rules were eased some time ago so that people in quaint areas were not disadvantaged in their quest for culture and entertainment.

Have you got a shed or outbuilding? We put ours at head height on a barn next to the house.

Problem is not so much where I can put it - it's if.

The chap that lives across the road was asked by the council to relocate his. He had it installed on the front facade of his cottage in a conservation area. Needless to say, there were several remarks made to the local conservation officer about it and it was relocated to the rear of his chimney stack.
If you ensure that the dish does not affect the publicly visible area of your property, yet still points in a direction that picks up a signal from the satelite, you won't have a problem.

Our house is only a Grade II, but I've had no problems over my Sky dish.
Remember that the dish doesn't have to be high up on the building - and it's when the dish breaks the roofline that CO's get most worked up about them. Mine is actually fixed about 3 ft above the ground, hidden away on the side of the building with a large rosebush hiding it from public view. It was there when I had the CO round to inspect the house - he looked straight at it and made no comment at all! This location means that we lose the signal momentarily if someone walks past the dish, but - as garden time and TV time tend to be completely different parts of the day - this has never bothered us.

Anyone with potential planning problems should ask their local CAI member (Confederation of Aerial Industries) for advise, dishes can be painted - disguised - etc. also there are other options such as the Globe Sat - & one which sits in a housing & looks like a small bin but is not permanent so shouldnt contravene regulations, only the bad installations are seen!
By the way the "SKY" transmissions are from 28.2 deg east of true south

We got planning permission/listed building consent without any trouble, but we did keep the dish on a side elevation just set back from the front corner slightly.
