Hi,
I have lime rendered the back of my victorian terraced cottage with Seciltek Eco cork insulating render.
Generally i have done a pretty good job, but on the downstairs section at the back its a bit ropey on one part. It really does need a skim coat to really bring it up to a good standard. I think i finished it off when really tired one evening, this was some time ago and its on my very long to do list.
I really want to get it finished now and want advice on how to do this. I had tried for a smooth finish but somehow didnt do this very well. So will need i assume to scratch it up to get another coat of something on. I no longer have any of the same render, or indeed any nhl lime apart from some NHL 5. I have lots of left over ready mixed lime plaster, top coat and even some very fine topcoat. Its lime putty based plaster from Mike Wye.
I live about 50 miles from the nearest lime merchant and delivery charges are high so wondered if it would be ok to use the lime plaster over the top as a skim coat. To use it up and to save money. I will later paint over it with some Keim silicate paint.
Would that work, would it adhere? Its not in a very exposed location, its only a small area with a bit of an overhang from the roof and the fences either side keep the back ground floor wall pretty sheltered. What would happen if i mixed some of the NHL 5 in with the lime putty plaster. Would that make it more robust? Would it just make a mess?
Or if i do really need to buy something for the job, which is just a thin skim coat to get a better finish, what would you advise to do this?
