So inventive - but it begs the question why those dark wiggly tin roofs? Surely clear wiggly plastic is even cheaper than wiggly tin?

I doubt it - I reckon the metal will be cheaper in a developing country. Plus the plastic goes brittle and discoloured with age, especially in strong sunlight. It will take ages for the wiggly tin to rust through, and even when it does it can be patched and repatched and eventually made into patches! When you've got very little, recycling and durability become more important than ever.

Sure you're right. Also sure that if I'd been born there I'd be the one person stamping foot and insisting husband make me something beautiful with thatch and fireflies.

PS I wish there was a way to get our rubbish to them. I've got so many building materials I don't need, and the Recycling Centre in town is just loaded up with useful stuff that has an unclear future.

I'm sure the detritus of the West could happily furnish and provide for developing countries. Just today I picked up two good modern dining chairs which had been dumped on our track. I'll just burn them, as their rush seats have broken - I can't imagine who would want them without expensive new rushing. Such terrible waste.

The small neighborhood recycling area nearby in London seemed to function more as an informal swap shop and was quite efficient at repurposing things. When I was sorting out our storage there were lots of surplus things. Good quality useful stuff went to my friend who had just bought a new place and lacked anything, good quality non useful stuff went to the charity shop and other things got left at the recycling. Most of it had been reclaimed by someone by the time I took my next batch there a few hours later. There seemed to be a convention of leaving it in a bag but visible.

Post them on Freegle/freecycle/cheapcycle (which ever is local) I expect someone will take them if not it cost you nothing.

When we lived in London it was easy to get rid of things - simply put them outside the door on the street and they've be gone in a couple of hours - one person trash is another person's treasure.

I agree that it usually worked but found it ever so puzzling sometimes when my deliberate trash didn't get taken!

BTW, corrugated iron is everywhere in most African towns so this invention is very appropriate. How long it lasts sadly is often not long as this depends on the thickness. The cheapest stuff is so thin that you can roll the sheet(s) and carry it on your shoulder, or on the bus, ....

Years ago in the head office of a company I worked for, a very innocent looking attachment was being sent by various people round the (open plan) office. On clicking the attachment the screen went blank and a loud voice came out out of your laptop speakers - "Look at me! I'm watching porn!"
