Silicate paints

Hi - as we live in London, I am loath to use limewash as an external masonry paint as its reputedly short lived in our fair city...

So, I am considering using Keim Granital, a silicate paint. Anybody got any experiences that I should consider before specifying this?

Its reputed to be short lived full stop, but mine is still spotless a couple of years on. I made putty and diluted it rather than just adding water to dry bagged, maybe this improves it quite a bit. Also you can add linseed oil to give it better binding and longer life.

And lastly fibres can be incorprated. While this is more common with mortars than paint, it does reduce cracking and flaking in paint, thus extend life. Fine short fibres, not inch long monsters.
