Signatures under posts?

Would this be a good idea do you think? We could jot down the type of house we live in so advice could be better aimed at any particular problem. If we knew the type of house and relative age we could base advice more soundly without having to ask.

I think the problem with signatures is they can end up cluttering the page badly. Some forums are terrible to read as a result of everyone getting carried away with signatures!

I agree with Feltwell and with Robgil.
So what about a compromise - provide the information, but put it in the user's Profile rather than cluttering the messages.
Or provide a link to another section of the forum?

I'd agree with that and I'd probably be guilty of a cluttered signature:

Part timber-frame with some wattle-and-daub panels and some bricked panels together with suspended wooden floor, part rubble wall with quarry tiled floor laid on bare earth, part chalk block with predominantly concrete floors.

I'd suggest that anyone asking about a specific problem would realise that the more details they provide about their house, or the specific part in question, then the more likely they are to receive a helpful answer.

It would be helpful if everyone could add their approximate location in their profile though.
