Shrublands Park, Suffolk

I see from Sotheby's website that the contents of Shrublands (a grand italianate house by Barry) are being auctioned off. A Google search to find out what is going on was not very informative. I think the house was recently an upmarket health club, but looking at the catalogue it seems that many items for sale belonged to the family whose seat it was.

It is a shame that so many grand houses are being divorced from their historic contents.

Oh, it isn't only grand houses - it's all manner of grand interiors

Middlesex Guildhall - the government has now got permission from Westminster Council to vandalise that, rip out the joinery and fittings to form the new 'supreme court'

Grade II* listing counts for nought really.
