Shower in restricted height bathroom?

Our new home has a ceiling level of approximately 6'1'' which makes it a bit low for most conventional showers (over baths or seperate.) How have others coped with this or any suggestions?

You can get some showers that have jets coming at you from the side. Probably quite expensive!

Hansgrohe do make an overhead shower panel but very expensive :shock:

We are just replacing a bathroom to include a shower over bath, height is restricted so have opted for a shower head straight out of the wall at highest point, both Bristan & Hansgrohe make shower heads that you can swivel up to highest point, hard to describe but if you give them a call for catalogues you'll see what I mean, a good starting point.

What is the ceiling? You might be able to inset a rose if you can get in there (with a bit of waterproofing). Otherwise, I have seen a low height shower with a fold down seat (they sell them for shower use by elderly and disabled).

We used to have a sunken bath, don't know if you could do a sunken shower mind you!

You could have a nice, bijou little shower with a comfy plastic picnic chair in it.

No problem if you dont mind a fixed shower head. Just purchase shower head of your choice and plumb direct to the copper piping. Have it in the middle of the cubicle of course.

It is if you are 6ft! In fact by the time you factor in the rose and the tray/bath, anyone over 5ft 6in is going to be struggling!

How did you do that? Stand it on end and fit a door?

Stuck it in the corner, built some studwork around it with a 3 step staircase so you walk up and step down into the bath. But obviously with restricted head room the staircase is out of the question but if you sit down in it, it dose give you room under a shower head

Well I was going to fit pram wheels to it and have someone tow me through the car wash every time I wanted a shower, but you just can't get decent pram wheels these days

By removing a patch of ceiling and lining the rectangular hole you could raise the rose anything upto 6". Or make it a round recess and put some decorative plaster bits around the edge.

I guess all things are possible! However, I would have problems standing up straight in any part of a house with a 6ft 1inch ceiling height, never mind under a shower in one! Of course Period People were shorter!

Um, unhelpful I know, but we get round the shower room height and indeed all the other reduced height/low beams situations by only being 5.6" ourselves. Taller guests go around rubbing bumped foreheads and muttering about "house for bl***y Hobbits!"

We have exactly the same situation as you describe.
I installed an electric shower run off mains water with a fixed
shower head ( which you have to duck into to wash your hair !).
A decent electric shower will need its own 45amp connection to
the main fuse box so that`s now a job for a qualified sparks.
Because of the confined ceiling height you will need to ensure good ventilation so you don`t suffocate from the steam around your head
and in order to prevent algal growth ( on the tiles, that is....)

It would not be a good idea to recess a shower head; the low
ceiling height means it gets splashed a lot and this could lead to
damp problems in the void above.

Instead of a screen we used a shower curtain which could be drawn
back when not in use - this helped with ventilating the shower area.
It`s been in regular use for years now with no other problems.

I think recessing the head, using a low profile head, sinking the tray a bit if possible, and using a seat are about the only things one can do. Making yourself shorter is one of the less practical options
