As suggested by Alex... I'll start the ball rolling!

Here is the willow tree that we bought this year, as I didn't want to fork out for a real one since we'll be away.
It was made by a local enterprise run by a homeless charity, and was quite tasteful before the girls and I got to it with the tinsel! And we can use it in the garden for climbing plants next year

(I won't post a picture of the ancient and tasteless artifical tree that DD1 insisted on putting up in addition since this wasn't big enough for her!)

Ahh, that's very sweet indeed - what a nice idea! I'd like to see the blingy one too - love sparkle at Christmas.

As you all know I'm very shy about pictures of my decorations appearing in public but seeing as it's not far off Christmas I'll make a special exception.

Two trees this year, a formal one to match the Print Room and a cottagey one in the breakfast room, and some Egyptian embellishment over the lot.

I like the cottagey one best.
It has the proper jolly mixture of decorations that have accumulated over the years.

At the risk of sounding patronising, the "look" isn't really what accumulated-over-years is all about.

It's about memories:

That's one that my niece gave me the year that she started playschool.
There's the one that I made out of that fir cone that hit me on the head in the Galloway Forest.
We bought this one with the 1/9d we found down the back of the sofa, the year we got married.
This one came out of a cracker on that freezing Christmas Day in Yorkshire.

...and so on.

That's very lovely; my mother has her tree decorated like this too.

Perhaps I'll rethink giving all the old deccies to the maid.

After this Christmas is over, you and I can do a swap - you can offload all that dreadful history-less tat from your cottagey tree onto me, and I will generously supply you with multiple memory-laden homemade items from ours! Memories included, FOC :wink:

That's awfully sweet of you Catherine but I find the Woodland Animals Cottage deccies have suddenly acquired a heap of Xmas 10 memories. There was the one that rolled across the floor when RobGil made a joke about his poor spelling, the one that snagged on a branch when FW made an excellent point about the economy, the one that the cat brought me when Gareth and I decided to go to Portmeirion next Spring...

Treasured memories, I couldn't possibly part with them now. :wink: :wink:
