Show off time! Got the start of our new kitcken

Hi everyone! After months of searching for units for our new kitchen we have finally bought something! We never wanted a MFI special and we we're previously considering building the kitchen from scratch! Luckily we spotted these on good olde eBay.

No reason for this post other than wanting to tell anyone that'll listen

We have 6 freestanding units in total. They are oak fronts with old pine backs and sides. Properly built with no veneered chipboard in sight. Granite tops all match and should fit our small kitchen beautifully.

Does anyone have an idea of the age of these? I know they're not "old" but it'd still be nice to put a rough date on them.

Looks like Oak Furniture Land's Original Rustic range from a couple years ago to me... :shock:

Always good to pick up a bargain, I presume they didn't hurt the wallet too badly, being from Ebay.

Age? Very modern I'd say, from the condition of them more than anything else. Doesn't matter how old they are though, they're nice.

Precisely, sorry, my previous post wasn't meant to come across as disparaging or anything - they do some lovely furniture. We have a whole collection of second hand solid wood furniture from a variety of sources, from period antiques to modern "in the style of" reproductions and love them all!

They are fabulous-- very sturdy, well built and just what you want, so never mind the age--I had similar in one of my houses which had been updated by the Vendor in 2004! Anyway enjoy your purchase and happy hunting for more items! xx

Thanks for the replies everyone. It was a good 11hr round trip but we got them back safe and sound. I've given them a going over and it looks like they're made by a company called besp-oak. Beautiful quality and weigh a tonne! We hired a long wheel base transit and they only just fit! Phew, as I didn't want to have to stack anything as weighty as the base cabinets!

Looking at the link above (thanks) they are identical so this may be where they came from. Not old, but hopefully built to last. At a new price of £500 each I'd certainly hope so!

Blimey, an 11 hour drive, glad it was worth it! Go on then, sicken us, how much were they?

I did a round trip from the Midlands to Newcastle Upon Tyne to get the roof windows for my garage - at £500 for 8 conservation type windows it was well worth the drive. I also went to Bath to get some huge 8' x 4' cast iron windows for the garage, that was more rarity value than anything else. Worth the trip, they look great.

It was an 11 hour trip door to door including picking up the hire van and loading etc (plus a quick bite to eat on the route back) so not quite 11 hours solid driving but still a good 7 hours of monotonous driving time!

We paid 650pounds all in for the 6 units. Not the bargain of the century but we're more than happy with them and their condition.

I agree, sometimes its worth a journey to get what you want without spending mega money. last month we picked up an as new cast iron freestanding double roll top bath with taps etc for 400pound! the exact model was being sold new for just over 2k and the taps were 275quid. Beautiful

I think we will be off up to Liverpool within the month for some reclaimed maple flooring that was saved from Odjens Tobacco factory. A beautiful patina to these boards that anything new just can't compete with.

I'm not seeing this at all. These are just units* with their own attached worktop. They'll be fixed in place. Other than having to join worktops if putting two pieces side by side, what exactly is the difference? You're talking to someone who always makes all his own furniture, including kitchens, and who wouldn't touch chipboard units with a barge-pole.

*Presumably decent quality, solid timber units, but nonetheless, just units.

Oh dear, I really should have kept a better eye on things. Sorry to have been away so long. No good excuse really, my favorite browsing device started dropping me off the site, which meant commenting was a nuisance, easily distracted by 'the other place' too. Trying to keep up now I have a new tablet decice!
