Second Nature stuff on sale

Have just ventured into B and Q only to see that they are having a big sale on all "ECO" products - this includes Sheeps wool insulation, Hemp insulation, Fuzzy stuff in and out of the silver bags, BOGO as some larger supermarkets call it.

The packs of Sheeps wool is £35 for a pack of 8 x 75mm batts and the rest buy one get one free. Not bad as especially you dont have to pay postage which is the killer on that stuff from Cumbria.

Hemp insulation sounds useful, although I don't have any hemp that's getting cold at the moment.

Meanwhile back at B&Q...

I have found that I can only get the Thermafleece at the local B&Q under a special order, even though the in-store leaflet has it. Still cheaper than an order from Cumbria but annoying that the only option available off-the-shelf continues to be the rockwool. Same goes for trying to get Warmcell from various of the national chains that supposedly stock it - seems that they don't send it up to the north since there is not sufficient demand (because its not available in the north etc etc).

(And don't get me started on S****fix and their surcharge for delivery north of Glasgow)

Sent the OH to look. Thermafleece seems quite cheap, but no BOGOF...

If you found it in B*Q it's almost certainly pretty thick!

The therafleece in the Megasized B & Q in Colchester was 75mm thick but was told they could special order thicker (I bet because they are a big company they beat up second nature on the price) but at least you save on the killer delivery but was reduced from 45 to 35 quid.

They also do tons of the recycled plastic bottle stuff for very cheap and that is BOGOF sorry for confusion

Actually, will still have to be transported, from B and Q, and Thermafleece had offered to have a stock at HQ so we could pick some up each time we pass, but I appreciate not everyone lives near Cumbria!

Not sure really how useful 75 mm is as loft insulation.

The recycled bottle stuff does sound a useful way to do something with the millions of these which otherwise go for landfill.

I'm probably missing something, but can't you put 2 layers down to get 6 inch thickness? I refuse to use millimeters - too new fangled for me.

I remember having a nice walk along the river to the B&Q Warehouse in Colchester. Happy memories of Essex ....

What is now the recommended thickness for loft insulation? Is it ten inches (no I don't do metric...)?
