Just had a delivery of logs for this winter. Same supplier as last year. A year seasoned, so he said. Well, the tree might have been cut a year ago, or not, but the logs (beech) are heavy and moist, some have fresh sap under the bark, and they have no shakes. A few logs even have recently deceased ivy on them.
Seasoned, my eye. Should have refused it, or at least got out my moisture meter (wherever that is) and checked it on the lorry.
However, it will be excellent for winter 2013/14.
And for this year Google has found me a supplier who not only guarantees <25% moisture content, but is about 20% cheaper. Cloud, silver lining.
Not much use having a super-efficient stove if you don't have decent wood to burn in it.
