Searching a property for purchase

Hello,

We, a family of three, are planning to relocate from Toronto, Canada to England. My mother is an erudite scholar and deisgner with avid interest in historic architecture, and I'm hoping to find an ideal property on her behalf; I'm currently looking between London and Dover, but will certainly consider other areas.

The property must be absolutely quiet with large, private lot. Desirable are pleasant surroundings and architecture of extraordinary beauty; We currently reside on a 1.5-acre property on a cliff directly facing a lake, so I'm hoping for to recreate some of the conditions. Price range is flexible, but I'm looking for somewhere above 750,000 pounds.

Bumping it up the list for you, but I'm not sure you'll get a response on specific properties, but people familiar with the area may be able to suggest locations to look. For internet searching Rightmove.co.uk is one of the more popular property sites over here.

Whilst £750k will buy you a very nice house indeed, you certainly won't get nice surroundings, great architecture and lots of land in the south of England for that sort of money. You'll get 1 or possibly 2 of those factors.

I like Primelocation http://www.primelocation.com/ They also have a section where you can see sold prices, although you do have to register for that ( free ). I also recommend google earth street view for looking at what surrounds a property.

Oh I don't know - not knowing the area apart from Ashford, Folkestone and Dover (which are all, erm, how can I put it, not on my top 10 list of places to revisit out of choice) I was surprised on a recent business trip to Kent on just how pleasant many of the rural parts are. The road down to Marden was lovely.
