Grateful if readers could give me some advice on restoring a gritstone fireplace.
I've removed (many) layers of plaster from a gritstone fireplace and revealed some worn but characterful pieces of stone. However, I don't know how to stablilize the stone as it is quite delicate and if brushed against brings away some 'sand'.
I guess I'm looking for some kind of stone sealant but one that will not be visible after application, and definitely shouldn't appear gloss. I also read that any sealant that prohibits the stone from breathing is also a bad idea.
Any advice on what to use?
Many thanks
Dominic
