Scout Hut designs

I have been asked to help find a new location after some local Scout were evicted from their hut and was wondering if anyone has had a new place built near them in a nice style and what it was like with the planning etc. It will be in Colchester so I was thinking of an Essex style timber barn but as it is a bit of a rough area it has to be vandal proof etc.

Any ideas much appreciated

In my experience the overriding issue with Scout buildings is cost. Many also have maintenance issues, relying on volunteers for jobs such as repainting, clearing gutters, which combined with your comments about security and the high risk of vandalism means that they are some of the ugliest buildings I've seen - from the outside at least.
If you have funds for something decent, excellent. One group I know managed to sell a piece of land and built a lovely two storey meeting place. Otherwise, the back pages of Scouting magazine usually carry ads for pre-fabs. Good luck.
