Hi all, I am a member of a newly formed Housing Cooperative that is hoping to buy it's first Property.
We are looking at a Grade 2 listed Back to Back Terraced House that is almost untouched since 1980's, it appears to be in a decent condition structurally (in my unqualified opinion) and needs "Modernising" (according to the Estate Agent) we feel that it only needs a good looking at and a bit of love and attention. The house would have been a Weaving Cottage, with the Top floor used to house Loom equipment, and accommodation for the Workforce (Family that lived in the House) on the 2 bottom floors.
The House is presently set out into 3 Bedrooms, utilising the former Weaving Floor as 2 Bedrooms by having a wall constructed from "Hardboard?" running from front to rear with a door leading from 1 room to the next. The House is not large by Modern standards (1 up 1up 1up) but simply built from Stone with a Stone Slate Roof.
The House is at the upper end of what our Co-op can afford, but at the bottom end of properties in the area, so we feel may be a possibility to buy. We are aware of SOME of the restrictions placed re. re-modelling and listed buildings, but not all and are trying to get in touch with our local conservation Officer @ the Local Council to get further advice before we make an ffer. I'm sure we will be back for advice and sympathy if we do buy this House, but it is lovely and exudes Strength and Joy.
Hope this Post makes some sense!!
