The Lansdowne Club is probably the best of the few remaining houses from early 18th century Hackney.
In 1860 the house became a refuge for discharged women prisoners named after the Quaker, Elizabeth Fry, the prison reformer.
The grade II* listed building and has been empty and deteriorating for years s, since the current owner bought it. Over the last 3 years the deterioration has accelerated. Windows are falling out, the door has been knocked in with an axe, the roof is damaged.
The owners are interested in building a block of flats to the rear. The listed building is preventing access to the site.
Hackney council have stalled on taking any action for years.
