Ev, Had a quick look, would be an interesting project. Followed through some of the links on the save site and thought I should point out that there are many self build mortgages nowadays ( subject to current wobbliness) I took out one with http://www.lloydstsb.com/mortgages/self_build.asp for the Merchants house. Beats the old bridging loan thing as mine was available as a second mortgage without even taking into account the first one. Perhaps it may be worth adding this to the save site to encourage others to dip their feet in to our mad world of old buildings. there are many people offering these types of loans ( or were!).
Also there are some very good site insurance policies too. I believe I paid £1800 for 2 years on £300,000 rebuild value before works commenced with £450,000 works in progress cover. They also threw in tools cover and legal etc.

I guess any pointers to help people on the way could be useful.

Well, if you would like to pass on that info to Catherine the Buildings at Risk Officer I am sure she would be grateful. Her MSc was on stuff allied to the re-use of historic buildings.

The website is very out of date as it's done as and when, and it takes a low priority, although there is at the moment a kind volunteer doing some work on it.

The Ecology Building Soc is also keen to help, although not the lowest rate, and last year it kindly helped pay for the BaR catalogue to be printed.
